Founder & Director of SBSCreative
Film and TV director by education, filmmaker by spirit and video producer by trade, Stefan founded SBSCreative in 2015.
A descendant from a theatre and film dynasty, Stefan has been working in the Film, TV, and Marketing industry for the past twenty-four years.
Meet the founder
Stefan was born in 1973 in Sofia, Bulgaria to a true theatre and film dynasty. His grandfather was a prominent theatre and film director and one of the co-founders of the Bulgarian Theatre and Film Academy. His father was a theatre director and a professor in the same academy. His mother was an actress with the Bulgarian National Theatre. One of his uncles is a famous theatre actor as well, another one was a Stage Artist and Designer for the Bavarian State Opera, a third is a seasoned voice actor.
Holding Master’s degrees in Theatre Acting and TV & Film Directing, as well as a PhD in History of Theatre from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia, Stefan has been working as a video producer and graphic designer for the past 24 years.
His passion for constant improvement and his desire to widen his professional horizon have driven Stefan to seek a variety of work opportunities both in Film and marketing industries, which have rewarded him with knowledge, expertise and a unique perspective on both video producing and video marketing.
He started his career as a stage actor, then, during his postgraduate studies, he worked as Art Manager of a small independent theatre in Sofia. In 2002 he published a book on history of theatre, in 2005 his first documentary was aired on the Bulgarian National Television and this launched his TV and Film career.
For several years he worked as a producer and director for a television channel and as a 2D composer and VFX post-production artist in NU BOYANA film studios (Rambo IV, Olympus Has Fallen, The Expendables)
He also has under his belt a short sci-fi film and a short fantasy machinima animated movie. During his career, however, Stefan has not forgotten his love for acting. He has frequently appeared in small roles in various international film productions and TV advertisements and has freelanced as a voice actor for the Bulgarian National Television.
In the period 2005-2013, he worked with numerous marketing and digital agencies as an Art Director and Head of DTP & Video Production departments.
Since he moved with his family to the UK in 2013 he immediately started freelancing his video production and design services, filming and editing ice hockey games for the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL), designing and producing online H&S internet courses for an online education company as well as filming and producing online video dance courses for a dance company.
In late 2014 he started collaborating with Captive8Media, a video production company in Fleet, taking the responsibility of the editing and the entire post production of their videos. This collaboration has resulted in producing around 1000 commercial, corporate and product videos to date.
In 2015 he founded SBSCreative and has been offering his knowledge, experience and expertise to SMEs, digital agencies, and video production companies since then.
According to the statistics, in 2019 consumer Internet video traffic accounted for 80% of all consumer Internet traffic. The numbers show that online users would spend 88% more time on websites with video, and more than 73% of Internet users would purchase a product or service because of video.
Video marketing offers a great opportunity to stand out from the crowd. You can directly engage with your target market, video can help you convert more sales, build trust, quickly explain, and show how you can solve your clients' problems. It can improve your search engine rankings and increase your brand awareness on social media.
More and more businesses are realising this, so it is not a surprise that video has become an essential part of many businesses’ online presence and overall marketing communication.
But really… Why video?
The statistics are impressive, and all sounds good in principle.
But the question remains, and if you are to dedicate your marketing resources to video content creation, you need a compelling reason for doing that.
Using video only because it is trendy, because of what the statistics show and because “everyone is doing it” is fine, and, sure, you can justify it by saying that you’re doing this to create or raise "brand awareness".
“…” Raising awareness” is often a nice euphemism for “I know this isn’t going to generate any business but at least people will know I’m still alive. Great. I now know you’re out there, but what would this video make me want your services? "*
Cannot be said better.
*This is a quote taken from the excellent book “Add value with video: Using video to improve your business” by John Billing. We really recommend this book to anyone who wants to dig deeper into the pros and cons of using video and into the technicalities that surround the video production.
Disclaimer: this is not an affiliate link, we will not receive any commission if you buy the book, we just really like it.
The aim of any marketing and PR activity is to grow your business and ultimately make more sales. The video content is just one of the cogs in the marketing machine and its role should be precisely defined.
To answer the question “Why video?” first you need to know what video can do for you. The examples below are, again, defined by John Billing and are explained in more detail in his book.
Consistency and Accuracy of the Message – Think, for example, about a message from a senior executive that needs to be delivered to the staff - directly, on time, at scale, without interpretations from the local sources.
Engaging Hearts and minds – This is a big one! Video acts on both our senses of vision and hearing and it merges the cognitive mental process with a subconscious emotional response. A well-crafted video can create a strong bond between you and your audience. This emotional bond can drive your viewers, can compel them to take the desired action,
Showing What Cannot Be Seen – For example, the value of your product or service can be hidden in its manufacturing process. You can use video to visually reveal this process, thus showing the hidden advantages of your product or service to your targeted audience.
Hear Authentic Voices – Yes, these talking head videos. The client testimonials. We all love them. Relatively easy and cheap to produce, they build trust and add credibility to your message.
Explain and Visualise Complex Concepts
BUT! Before even consider video as an option, you should:
Define the change or improvement you wish to achieve. You should clearly define your goal.
Determine what needs to be communicated.
Carefully choose the audience you want to reach.
Decide the most effective medium for your message. It doesn’t have to be video!
More on this last one: let’s say you want to promote the new range of sofas you are making. A single long video is a really bad option – it will be painful to watch 30 different sofas shown one after another for at least 10 minutes. No matter how good the music track is. The obvious and most effective medium to showcase your new sofa range would be a printed or online photo catalogue.
A video can be made for the most valued or the most flashy sofa in your range. You can show this video on your website, as an introduction to your photo catalogue.
If you believe that your full range will be best represented using video, there should be a marketing reason or a concept behind it. For example, you can produce a series of short videos, promoting one sofa at a time. You should show these videos separately, let’s say one new video every day for 30 days on your social media channels. And direct your audience to your online photo catalogue – now this is a marketing concept.
Video indeed is a great tool in your communication and marketing toolbox. But by using video without a clear and compelling answer to the “Why?” question you will be throwing you time, money, and resources in the bin.
You will just create noise.
So much noise out there...
Did you know that more than 63% of businesses are using video content marketing?
That creates a problem. There is so much video noise out there. Nowadays, everybody can film something, even with their phones, and post it online, with the hope that the video content they are creating may somehow work for them.
At SBSCreative we believe that to be truly seen and remembered, to reach your marketing targets, you need a professionally produced, of the highest possible quality, and most importantly – bespoke video content. Video content tailored to your needs and goals.
We do not produce one-size-fits-all, template videos.
As a Film and TV director, with many years of experience in the industry, Stefan understands the power of a good, emotional story, told well.
We will work closely with you, we will get to know you, your philosophy, your ethos. We will find the specific problems you are trying to overcome and the exact message you' want to convey. We will find your unique story and we will tell it well.
Your videos will not only inform your customers about your products or services, not only provoke an emotional response. They will create empathy.
This can make a huge impact…
